Accident – Death – Obituary News : A man from Southern California has been handed a 30-year prison sentence for committing rape and sex crimes against his younger sister. Stephen Delacruz, aged 37, was found guilty of the crimes he committed when he was just 14 and 15 years old, targeting his sister who was only 8 years old at the time. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office disclosed the details of the case.

The victim, identified as Samantha J., bravely stepped forward in 2019 to report the harrowing incidents that occurred in 2001 and 2002. Court documents revealed that Delacruz would isolate Samantha in their Oxnard home and use threats of violence to keep her silent. He would often brandish a knife before carrying out the sexual assaults, creating a climate of fear and intimidation.

Initially, charges were filed against Delacruz in juvenile court due to his age at the time of the crimes. However, Senior Deputy DA Erik Nasarenko successfully argued for the case to be transferred to adult court, citing the severity and violent nature of the crimes. The decision was eventually made to transfer the case, with a new set of criteria introduced in 2022 requiring clear evidence that the minor is not amenable to rehabilitation through the juvenile court system.

Before the case went to trial, Delacruz pleaded guilty to all eight felony charges brought against him. These included three counts of forcible rape, three counts of forcible oral copulation, and two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object. Delacruz also admitted to special allegations regarding the age of the victim, who was under 18 years old at the time of the crimes.

Speaking on the outcome of the case, Nasarenko praised Samantha for her resilience and determination in seeking justice. He commended her bravery in facing her brother during the sentencing to deliver her victim impact statement. Delacruz was ultimately sentenced to 30 years in state prison for his heinous actions.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of speaking out against abuse and the significance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. It also highlights the need for continued efforts to support and empower survivors of such crimes..
