The victim of a tragic fatal shooting on St. Paul’s East Side has been identified as 22-year-old Royce D. McKinney, a resident of St. Paul. McKinney was discovered inside an SUV that had crashed late Monday near York Avenue and Van Dyke Street in the Eastern Hazel Park neighbourhood, according to reports from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and St. Paul police.
Suspect Arrested in Connection with the Murder
Authorities have revealed that charges are expected to be filed on Friday against a 17-year-old boy who was taken into custody on Tuesday morning during a routine traffic stop. The teenager is facing allegations of second-degree murder and being a minor in possession of a firearm, according to Police Sgt. Mike Ernster.
Details of the Shooting Incident
The tragic incident unfolded on Monday evening when police responded to reports of “multiple shots fired” in the area at approximately 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a tree, with an SUV resting on the boulevard on the east side of Van Dyke Street. Inside the SUV, McKinney was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Despite the efforts of the police to administer first aid to McKinney, paramedics arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead. The community has been left in shock and mourning following this senseless act of violence.
