SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (KTAL/KMSS) – Shreveport police apprehended a suspect accused of firing shots at a moving vehicle on Thursday morning.
Upon receiving reports of shots fired, officers swiftly responded to the scene at Jewella Avenue and Mckey Lane. Dispatch informed the police that a man was in pursuit of another individual, firing shots at their vehicle.
The victim, in a harrowing situation, remained on the line with 911 operators, following their guidance as they attempted to make their way to the nearest police station. The suspect, displaying reckless behaviour, relentlessly pursued the victim at high speeds.
During the pursuit, the suspect intentionally collided with the victim’s car multiple times, ultimately forcing it off Interstate 20 and down an embankment. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to overturn, but fortunately, the victim sustained only minor injuries.
Following the incident, law enforcement identified the suspect as 33-year-old Robert Cornelius. Cornelius was promptly taken into custody and charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and aggravated criminal property damage.
