SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has apprehended a suspect in connection with a fatal overdose that occurred last year.
According to reports from SCSO, on the evening of October 14, 2023, deputies were called to a residence on North Ruby Road where they discovered the lifeless body of a 67-year-old man. Upon further investigation, deputies found a bottle containing pills marked with the letter “M”, which were later identified as counterfeit Fentanyl pills, colloquially known as “mexi’s” or “blues”.
An autopsy conducted by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that the victim had succumbed to the lethal combination of Fentanyl, methamphetamine, and alcohol in his system.
Following an extensive inquiry, Spokane County Major Crimes Detectives were able to identify a suspect who had allegedly supplied the victim with the counterfeit Fentanyl pills on the night before his demise. Incriminating messages exchanged between the suspect and the deceased further solidified the case.
The suspect, identified as Randy Brown, aged 61, has a criminal record that includes prior felony convictions and arrests related to controlled substances. Detectives uncovered that Brown had visited the victim on the evening of October 13, 2023, and was involved in illicit activities involving Fentanyl distribution and use. Brown, however, denies selling drugs to the deceased.
Arrest and Charges
On Thursday, U.S. Marshals apprehended Brown near the intersection of East Mission Avenue and North Greene Street. He was subsequently taken into custody and booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of controlled substance homicide and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Brown’s bail has been set at £100,000.
