In a recent crackdown on illegal activities, police in Morang arrested Raj Kumar Singh, a 30-year-old resident of Kamalpur, Dhanpalthan Rural Municipality-7, for possession of over 15 quintals of illegal marijuana. The arrest took place near the Nepal-India border in Dhanpalthan, Morang, following a tip-off received by the authorities.
Seizure of Illegal Marijuana
According to Gyanendra Bahadur Basnet, the police spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Morang, a total of 1,548 kg of illegal marijuana was confiscated from Singh’s shed on Thursday. The operation was led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Navraj Karki, the chief of Morang police, who spearheaded the raid based on information about the illegal activities.
During the search, authorities discovered 49 sacks of illegal marijuana hidden within the wheat chaff storage inside Singh’s shed. The investigation is ongoing to determine the origin of the seized marijuana and whether Singh was acting alone or as part of a larger network involved in the illegal trade.

Marijuana cultivation is a prevalent issue in the hilly regions of Koshi Province, with the produced marijuana often being smuggled to India through areas like Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari.
