Accident – Death – Obituary News : Berhampur: Tragedy struck a government-run residential school in Baliguda block, Kandhamal, as a Class 2 student tragically passed away. The untimely demise of 7-year-old Mita Mallick from Sarukoi village in Kutukia panchayat has left the community in shock. The young girl had recently resumed her studies at the school, managed by the tribal development department, following the summer break.
According to reports, during a routine health examination on Tuesday, Mita was diagnosed with anaemia and a mild fever, which raised concerns of a possible malaria infection. The following day, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and despite immediate action taken by school authorities, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the subdivisional hospital in Baliguda.
Speaking on the tragic incident, Burumajhi Parida, welfare extension officer at K Nuagaon, revealed, “The student was suffering from a fever with mild temperature. As per the advice of the community health officer, she was administered medicines. But her temperature suddenly increased the next day, and we immediately took her to the hospital.” Geetanjali Pathy, the headmistress of the school, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and assured full cooperation with the authorities in the investigation.
In response to the heartbreaking incident, the district administration has initiated a joint inquiry, involving the project administrator of Integrated Tribal Development Agency Baliguda, the district welfare officer, and the subdivisional medical officer of Baliguda. “We will visit the school soon and discuss with the schoolteachers and other inmates of the hostel to ascertain the cause of death,” one of the inquiring officers stated. Kandhamal collector Ashish Ishwar Patil affirmed that strict action would be taken against any individuals found responsible for negligence or misconduct.
Despite the standard protocol of conducting a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, the parents of the deceased declined the procedure, and the body was subsequently handed over to them. The local community is mourning the loss of the young student, and efforts are being made to ensure that such tragedies are prevented in the future.
