Michael Parker Speaks Out About Cook Out Drive-Thru Shooting

In his first interview since the incident, Michael Parker, a 29-year-old Norfolk man facing charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and gun offenses, shared his side of the story from the confines of the Norfolk City Jail.

Parker recounted the events that led to the fatal shooting in a Cook Out drive-thru in Norfolk on Monday morning. He claimed that he was merely trying to defend himself and his girlfriend during the altercation.

According to Parker, the night started innocently enough with a craving for Cook Out. He and his girlfriend decided to grab a meal, ordering a grilled chicken tray with a honey mustard chicken wrap and Cajun fries.

However, as they were waiting in the drive-thru, Parker alleges that a man, later identified as Jason Allred from New Mexico, approached their car and began banging on the windows and trying to open the doors.

Feeling threatened, Parker said he stepped out of the vehicle to confront Allred, who allegedly attacked him. Parker, who was armed at the time, claimed that the gun discharged accidentally as Allred tried to grab it from him.

Police responded to the scene on E. Little Creek Road to find Allred with a fatal gunshot wound. Another man, believed to be a Cook Out employee, sustained a graze wound during the incident and was treated at the scene.

Despite expressing remorse for the loss of life, Parker maintained that he acted in self-defense and questioned the severity of the charges against him.

When asked about the presence of a firearm, Parker reflected on the uncertainty of the situation, pondering what could have happened if he hadn’t been armed.

Now facing an uncertain future and the prospect of losing everything, Parker expressed his fears about the legal process and its potential consequences.

As the investigation continues, both the Norfolk Police Department and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office declined to comment on the case.

Parker remains in custody without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 2.
