An 87-year-old woman, Martha Murphy, has been confirmed as the victim of a tragic three-alarm fire that took place in Rockland earlier this month, according to the Department of Fire Services. The incident occurred at 72 Vernon St. on the early morning of Friday, June 21.
Firefighters responded to a call reporting a fire at the two-story, single-family home and upon arrival, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the property. One individual had managed to escape the blaze, but unfortunately, Murphy was found unresponsive inside the residence.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency crews, Martha Murphy could not be saved from the inferno. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities.
