The family members of a 21-year-old youth, who was brutally beheaded by a notorious criminal, have refused to accept his body for the second consecutive day. They are currently staging a hunger strike near the collectorate in Madurai, demanding the arrest of all those involved in the murder, and urging for the investigation to be handed over to the Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID).
The victim, M Alagendran from Kovilangulam in Virudhunagar, belonged to the SC community. The perpetrator, M Prabakaran (28) from Venkatachalapuram in Madurai, who is a member of the Devendrakula Vellalar community, has been apprehended in connection with the heinous crime.
Reports suggest that Alagendran was romantically involved with a Class 12 girl from the Devendrakula Vellalar community, who happens to be a relative of Prabakaran. Allegedly, the girl’s family had warned Alagendran against continuing the relationship, but he ignored their warnings. Enraged by this defiance, Prabakaran mercilessly beheaded Alagendran and disposed of his naked body in Velambur.
Speaking to reporters, Alagendran’s mother, M Mariammal (39), expressed her belief that Prabakaran did not act alone in the brutal murder. She insisted that all those involved in the heinous act must be identified and brought to justice promptly. Despite facing threats, the family has stood firm in their decision to not accept the body until justice is served.
Perarivalan, a prominent figure in the Tamil Puligal Party, stated that this incident should be categorised as an honour killing, given the opposition from the girl’s family towards her relationship with an SC individual. He emphasised the need for the case to be transferred to the CB-CID for a thorough investigation and for all culprits to be apprehended.
Meanwhile, a police official revealed that the girl’s father has also been implicated in the case. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts being made to uncover the full extent of the crime.
