Accident – Death – Obituary News :

One man has been taken into custody while police continue their search for his brother in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager on Muhlenberg Street in Reading back in April.

An arrest warrant was issued on Tuesday for Luis Santos-Cruz, 19, of the 1500 block of Cotton Street. He faces charges of first- and third-degree murder, aggravated assault, and other related offences.

Authorities believe that Santos-Cruz is one of the two individuals responsible for the murder of 19-year-old Christian Disla. The second shooter involved in the incident has yet to be identified by the police.

Another individual, Jonielle Cruz, 17, from Reading, was apprehended in May and formally charged this week. He is currently being held in custody without bail.

The tragic event unfolded on April 1 when officers were called to the 1200 block of Muhlenberg Street following reports of gunshots being fired.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered multiple spent shell casings and several parked vehicles that had been hit by gunfire. Their investigation led them to a man, later identified as Disla, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound at the rear of a residence on the 1300 block of Muhlenberg Street.

Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, Disla was pronounced dead at the scene. A subsequent autopsy revealed that he had succumbed to a single gunshot that had entered his lower back and travelled into his chest.

Reading police launched a thorough investigation into the homicide, interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and speaking with a second victim who was present during the incident.

The second victim recounted being accosted by three individuals – identified as Luis Santos-Cruz, Jonielle Cruz, and Joseph Nelson – at a corner store on Cotton and Rehr streets prior to the shooting. Following an altercation, the victim sought refuge inside the store and later met up with Disla and another individual.

Tragically, as the group sat in a parked car on Muhlenberg Street, they were targeted by gunfire. Security footage captured Santos-Cruz firing a handgun towards their location, with Cruz allegedly instructing him to do so moments before the shots rang out.

While Santos-Cruz and Cruz fled the scene following the shooting, a second unidentified shooter also discharged rounds towards the car before making a quick exit from the area.

In a separate incident on May 21, authorities responded to a disturbance on Perkiomen Avenue where Cruz was involved. During a brief pursuit, Cruz discarded a black hoodie containing a stolen handgun, which was later linked to the weapon used in the April 1 shooting.

Following ballistic testing, Cruz was charged with first- and third-degree murder and other related offences. He was denied bail due to the serious nature of the charges and is currently being held at Wayne County Correctional Facility.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Santos-Cruz or the unidentified shooter is urged to provide an anonymous tip to Crime Alert Berks County. Tips leading to an arrest could result in a reward of up to £10,000.
