Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Indiana police department has recently made public body camera footage of a traffic stop that resulted in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Black man, sparking local protests.

Fort Wayne police released a statement this week along with edited body camera video of the stop on Saturday evening, stating that the officer opened fire due to the “actions from occupants inside the vehicle.” According to police, a gun was retrieved from the car after the shooting.

The man, identified as Linzell Parhm, was taken to the hospital after the incident and was later pronounced dead.

In an effort to provide transparency, the police department released the body camera footage to allow the public to have a clearer understanding of the events that transpired. They emphasized the importance of gathering all the necessary facts before passing judgment on the situation.

Video footage released on Tuesday shows the officer, Mason Wills, interacting with a group of individuals in a red vehicle. Wills instructs them to keep their hands on the dashboard, but the man in the front passenger seat defies this instruction, prompting Wills to draw his gun.

After multiple warnings to the passenger to keep his hands visible, the situation escalates when the passenger makes a sudden movement, leading to Wills firing his weapon. The footage does not show a visible gun during the exchange, but officers later recovered a 7.62 mm Draco AK pistol from the car.

The reason for the initial traffic stop has not been disclosed by the police department. Wills has been placed on administrative leave as per policy.

Parhm’s family has reviewed the video footage, and they have enlisted the services of civil rights attorney Ben Crump. The incident has prompted local protests, with community members demanding the release of the video.

Indiana State Police are conducting an investigation into the shooting.

Parhm was a director at the Euell A. Wilson Center, a Christian organization dedicated to supporting youth and their families. The center has paid tribute to Parhm on social media and is collecting donations for his family.

Described as someone who brought smiles to those around him, Parhm was deeply committed to his community and his work at the center.
