A 50-year-old man from Ocala, identified as Joseph Raymond Morin, was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) after he allegedly attempted to meet a 13-year-old decoy for sexual purposes at a Winn-Dixie restaurant.
Online Communication with Decoy
According to the MCSO arrest report, the man, using the username “Mike Hunt,” initiated communication with a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent posing as a 13-year-old girl on a social media platform. The decoy made it clear that she was 13 years old and had recently relocated to Marion Oaks from Arizona.
Over a period of several weeks, Morin engaged in explicit conversations with the decoy, describing sexual acts and suggesting they meet for lunch at the Winn-Dixie Market on Marion Oaks Boulevard.
Arrest and Admission
On June 26, 2024, MCSO detectives observed Morin’s truck pulling into a parking spot near a Dollar General store close to the Winn-Dixie supermarket. They approached him, placed him under arrest, and conducted an interview.
During the interview, Morin allegedly confessed to traveling from Citrus County to meet the 13-year-old decoy. He admitted to discussing oral sex with the decoy and indicated that he had intended to engage in sexual activity inside his vehicle in the Dollar General parking lot.
Charges and Incarceration
Morin was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail. He is currently being held without bond on charges of travelling to meet a minor for unlawful sexual contact, using a computer to solicit a child, and using a two-way communication device to facilitate a crime.
As of now, no court date has been scheduled for Morin, as per jail records.
