Tragedy struck in the Town of Russia in Herkimer County, New York, as one man lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Thursday morning. The New York State Police at Herkimer are currently investigating the incident.
The fatal crash took place on June 27, 2024, at approximately 4:49 a.m. State Police in Herkimer received reports of a one-vehicle accident on Southside Road in the town of Russia.
According to preliminary findings, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as 41-year-old Jeremy J. Antonuk from Cold Brook, NY, was travelling east on Southside Road when he lost control of his 2008 Nissan Frontier. The vehicle veered off the northern shoulder of the road and collided with a tree.
Tragically, Antonuk was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency services. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing, with State Police being assisted by Star Ambulance and the Poland Fire Department.
