Details of the Alleged Incident

According to a probable cause affidavit, at 2:52 p.m. on May 1, law enforcement officials were called to the 1100 block of Mariposa Drive in Alamo in response to a report of child injury. A Child Protective Services investigator informed deputies that he was looking into a case where a child had fallen off a bed on April 29.

The child was initially taken to the Alamo Freestanding Emergency Room and later airlifted to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi due to a brain bleed, as outlined in the document.

During their investigation, Alamo police interviewed the child’s mother, who provided inconsistent accounts of the incident. She was reluctant to divulge information about her partner, identified as Salazar.

Subsequent to obtaining a statement from Salazar, he refuted any mistreatment towards the child, although he displayed deceptive behaviour throughout the questioning.

The child’s mother later provided another statement, revealing that she had witnessed Salazar shaking the child vigorously at their residence following an argument.

She narrated that Salazar had picked up her 1-year-old son and shook him vigorously with both hands while holding him aloft in a back-and-forth motion. Consequently, the child began experiencing seizures, prompting them to rush him to the emergency room.

Medical professionals at the hospital confirmed that the injuries sustained by the child were consistent with abusive head trauma caused by rapid acceleration and deceleration, indicating that such injuries could not have resulted from a fall from a bed.

Salazar was subsequently taken into custody and booked at the Hidalgo County Jail on Tuesday. As of Friday morning, he remains incarcerated on a $15,000 bond.
