A shocking video has emerged showing the tragic moment a local motel manager lost his life after being punched in the face. The victim, identified as 59-year-old Hemant Mistry, passed away the day after the incident occurred.
The accused suspect, 41-year-old Richard Lewis, has been taken into custody and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
The footage was captured by a security guard who witnessed the altercation between Mistry and Lewis. The individual who shared the video with News 9 chose to remain anonymous.
Although the video quality was poor and the audio unclear, it was evident that a heated argument was taking place between the two men.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded at the Motel 6 near Interstate 40 and Meridian Avenue. Mistry had asked Lewis to leave the premises over the weekend, leading to a confrontation.
Court documents reveal that Lewis became increasingly aggressive and threatened Mistry before ultimately striking him in the face, causing the victim to lose consciousness. Mistry fell to the ground, hitting his head.
In the video, Lewis can be seen gathering his belongings and leaving the scene, while a woman rushes to Mistry’s aid.
Sgt. Dillon Quirk of the Oklahoma City Police Department stated, “The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day.”
Social media posts indicate that Mistry was a devoted husband and father, with one of his children expressing admiration for his dedication to both his family and work.
An eyewitness positively identified Lewis as the assailant in the video. Subsequently, Lewis was apprehended at another motel in the metro area.
Quirk added, “He has been detained on an assault charge, pending further investigation by the Medical Examiner’s Office.”
Although formal charges have yet to be filed against Lewis, authorities are considering upgrading the offence from aggravated assault to second-degree murder due to the severity of the incident.
It has been disclosed that Lewis has a history of convictions for domestic assault and battery. He is currently being held in custody.
