Accident – Death – Obituary News :
CHARLES COUNTY, Md. – A man has been found guilty in Charles County after strangling his stepson to death in Waldorf.
The individual responsible for this heinous crime has been identified as 44-year-old George Christopher Floyd. He has been formally charged with second-degree murder and false imprisonment.
Authorities were summoned to a residence in Waldorf on October 8, 2023, following reports of a person in distress. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered the lifeless body of an 18-year-old male in a bathroom. George Christopher Floyd, the victim’s stepfather, was also present at the residence.
Floyd informed law enforcement that he had placed the victim in a chokehold as the young man attempted to flee. Tragically, the victim lost consciousness due to the restraint. Emergency Medical Services provided immediate medical assistance and rushed the victim to the hospital. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to the injuries sustained from the chokehold.
An investigation uncovered that the night prior to the incident, Floyd, the victim’s mother, and the victim had engaged in a heated argument which had seemingly been resolved before retiring for the night. The following morning at approximately 5 a.m., Floyd entered the victim’s room and demanded that he tidy up. Subsequently, Floyd proceeded to restrain the victim, ultimately applying a fatal neck restraint. The victim’s mother intervened upon hearing the commotion, enlisting the help of the victim’s friends and teenage brother to diffuse the situation.
Reports suggest that Floyd instructed the young men to assist in restraining the victim and partake in a prayer session. At one point, Floyd asked one of the victim’s friends to fetch olive oil, which he then used to mark a cross on the victim’s forehead. Despite the victim being motionless and unresponsive on the floor, Floyd maintained the neck restraint for an extended period, estimated to be between 15-20 minutes.
Upon realising the gravity of the situation, Floyd and the others present attempted to provide aid but hesitated to contact emergency services immediately. It was only after several minutes of the victim remaining unresponsive that Floyd finally dialled 911.
George Christopher Floyd is scheduled for sentencing on August 16, 2024, where he could potentially face a sentence of more than 75 years in prison.
