Accident – Death – Obituary News : OHIO COUNTY, Ky. — The tragic death of 8-month-old Miya Rudd has sparked a movement towards implementing new legislation to protect young babies. A petition, which has garnered nearly 8,000 signatures so far, is calling for the introduction of a law that would safeguard vulnerable infants.

The petition, initiated by Eric Williams, has gained significant traction in the wake of Miya Rudd’s untimely passing. The infant was discovered deceased on June 14 in the residence of her parents, Cage Rudd and Tesla Tucker. This heartbreaking incident shed light on the couple’s history of unsafe living conditions and involvement in drug-related activities, which resulted in the removal of their other children.

Following their arrest on charges including criminal child abuse and drug trafficking, Williams expressed disbelief at the overwhelming support his petition has received. “It looks like we’re almost at 7,500,” Williams remarked, highlighting the widespread concern and demand for change in child protection laws.

The proposed legislation, dubbed “Miya’s Law,” seeks to prevent parents who have lost custody of their children from regaining custody of newborns without demonstrating their ability to provide a safe and stable environment. Williams emphasised the importance of parents proving their commitment to rehabilitation and safeguarding their children through measures such as drug testing, stable employment verification, and home inspections.

Lynn Hulsey, assistant director of the Family Enrichment Center, underscored the long-term benefits of protecting children from abuse, stating that it can significantly impact their future outcomes. The nonprofit organisation focuses on preventing child abuse and emphasises the critical role of early intervention in shaping a child’s life trajectory.

As the petition inches closer to its goal of 7,500 signatures, the momentum behind “Miya’s Law” continues to grow. With just over 50 signatures needed to reach the next milestone, supporters are rallying behind the initiative to enact legislative changes that prioritise the safety and well-being of vulnerable children.
