On 06-26-2024, at approximately 12:55 P.M., deputies of the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were conducting an investigation in the vicinity of Ackerman Creek, east of the 2200 block of North State Street in Ukiah. The investigation was prompted by the reported theft of a bicycle from a nearby residence.
During the course of their investigation, deputies encountered a female individual who appeared to be asleep in a tent. Despite attempts to communicate with her, she did not respond. Upon closer inspection, the deputies discovered that the female was deceased.
Based on evidence found at the scene, it is suspected that the cause of death was a drug overdose. However, the final determination of the cause and manner of death is pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology reports.
The deceased has been identified as Elizabeth Dockins, a 35-year-old individual believed to be a transient from the Ukiah area. The appropriate legal procedures have been followed to notify Dockins’ next of kin as part of the coroner’s investigation.
