Authorities in Fairfax County, Virginia, have officially named the victim of a tragic motorcycle accident in the Chantilly area on Thursday. The deceased motorcyclist has been identified as 23-year-old David Arias Sandoval, a resident of Herndon, confirmed by the Fairfax County Police Department.

Details of the Incident

The fatal crash occurred just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, involving a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle, a Nissan Rogue, and a Volkswagen Taos on Route 28 near McLearen Road in Chantilly. According to detectives, the motorcyclist was attempting to overtake the Nissan at a high speed on northbound Route 28. The collision between the motorcycle and the Nissan resulted in debris hitting the Volkswagen, leading to a tragic outcome.

Investigation Ongoing

Following the incident, the driver of the Nissan was taken to the hospital with injuries that were fortunately not life-threatening. Detectives are currently investigating whether alcohol played a role in the crash and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Road Closure and Traffic Disruption

As a result of the crash investigation, Route 28 was closed northbound between Route 50 and McLearen Road, near Dulles International Airport, for approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. The closure caused significant traffic congestion, with backups stretching up to 5 miles in the area.
