A 20-year-old man hailing from New York City has been extradited to Pennsylvania to face retail theft charges in Berks and Chester counties.
Authorities have identified the individual as Audys A. Soto Sandoval, who was allegedly part of a group of four males involved in a shoplifting incident at the Ulta Beauty store located in the Broadcasting Square shopping center on March 19th at around 10 a.m.
Spring Township police reported that the group entered the store and proceeded to take various items off the shelves, concealing them in their jackets and bags before leaving the premises without making any payments.
Surveillance footage from the store captured the theft, estimating the total value of the stolen merchandise to be $928.
Following the incident, Ulta Beauty collaborated with law enforcement agencies from neighbouring states, utilising an incident management database to identify Soto Sandoval as one of the suspects involved in the theft. Further details regarding the investigation were not disclosed.
Authorities revealed that the group, believed to be involved in multiple shoplifting incidents at Ulta stores across Pennsylvania and surrounding states, had stolen merchandise totalling over $9,000 in combined value.
In April, an arrest warrant was issued for Soto Sandoval by Spring Township police, while state police in Chester County also obtained a separate warrant for his involvement in a theft at the Ulta store located in East Marlborough Township, near Kennett Square. Details surrounding the East Marlborough theft were not made available.
Information pertaining to Soto Sandoval’s arrest was not disclosed. However, Berks County deputy sheriffs transported him back from Manhattan, his place of residence, following the extradition process.
Upon his return to Pennsylvania, Soto Sandoval was remanded to Berks County prison in lieu of $25,000 bail. He is set to await a hearing subsequent to his arraignment before District Judge Brian K. Strand at Reading Central Court.
Soto Sandoval is facing charges of retail theft and conspiracy in relation to the incidents.
