A 20-year-old man hailing from New York City has been extradited to Pennsylvania to face retail theft charges in Berks and Chester counties. Audys A. Soto Sandoval, along with three other males, allegedly participated in a shoplifting incident at the Ulta Beauty store located in the Broadcasting Square shopping center on March 19 at approximately 10 a.m.
Spring Township police reported that the group of individuals entered the store and proceeded to remove items from the shelves, concealing them in their jacket pockets and shopping bags before leaving without making any payments. The entire incident, which involved stolen merchandise valued at $928, was captured on the store’s security cameras.
Following the theft, Ulta Beauty collaborated with law enforcement agencies from neighbouring states to track down the suspects using an incident management database. This collaborative effort led to the identification of Soto Sandoval as one of the individuals involved in the crime, although specific details regarding this development remain undisclosed.
Further investigations by Spring police revealed that the group was allegedly responsible for a series of shoplifting incidents at Ulta stores across Pennsylvania and surrounding states, resulting in the theft of merchandise valued at over $9,000 in total.
Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued in April for Soto Sandoval, with state police in Chester County also obtaining a warrant for his involvement in a separate heist at the Ulta store in East Marlborough Township, near Kennett Square, just two days after the Spring Township incident. Detailed information regarding the East Marlborough theft remains unavailable.
Although the specifics surrounding Soto Sandoval’s arrest are currently unknown, Berks County deputy sheriffs transported him back from Manhattan, his city of residence, following his extradition. Upon his return, Soto Sandoval was remanded to the Berks prison on a $25,000 bail, awaiting a hearing subsequent to his arraignment before District Judge Brian K. Strand in Reading Central Court.
