FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a step-father and mother are currently in custody and facing charges of Child Abuse following an incident where a two-year-old child was discovered unresponsive on Wednesday, June 26.
Authorities were alerted to the situation after receiving a call for assistance from the 600 block of Paradise Acres Drive in Boones Mill, reporting that a two-year-old was found unconscious. Deputies and emergency medical services from the Franklin County Department of Safety quickly responded to the scene, and the child was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Thankfully, the child is now in stable condition and is receiving ongoing medical treatment.
After the incident, the stepfather, identified as 39-year-old Andrew Ralph Fokas Jr., was apprehended by law enforcement officers following an attempt to evade capture on foot.
The following day, on Thursday, June 27, the child’s mother, 34-year-old Jennifer Warren Altice, was also taken into custody.
Both individuals have been charged with Felony Child Abuse and Neglect: Serious Injury and are currently being detained without bail.
