A Colchester Police officer was dragged approximately 50 feet early Wednesday morning after a traffic stop involving a stolen vehicle turned violent. The incident took place on Conquest Circle at around 4:21 a.m.
Details of the Incident
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found two individuals unresponsive inside a dark blue Genesis G80 with Colorado plates. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Burlington Police Department.
The driver, identified as 39-year-old Andrew Brace of St. Albans, resisted arrest when officers attempted to apprehend him. In a shocking turn of events, Brace accelerated the vehicle in reverse, dragging one of the officers for approximately 50 feet before speeding away from the scene.
Charges Against Andrew Brace
Andrew Brace is currently on the run and is facing a slew of charges in connection with the incident. These charges include aggravated assault, aggravated operation without owner’s consent, eluding a police officer, resisting arrest, violation of release conditions, and driving with a suspended license.
Despite the severity of the situation, the officer who was dragged by Brace sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the altercation.
