A devastating incident occurred in LaGrange County, Indiana, resulting in the untimely death of a 53-year-old man from Ligonier. The tragic crash took place at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Thursday morning along the 5400 block of S. State Road 5 in Topeka.
According to reports from deputies, a 74-year-old man from Syracuse was travelling south on State Road 5 in a Dodge Caravan when it is believed that he dozed off at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer into the oncoming lane.
The driver of a Pontiac Montana, a 61-year-old man from Ligonier, recounted to authorities that he attempted to swerve to avoid the oncoming Caravan but was unable to prevent the collision.
Tragically, the front seat passenger of the Caravan, identified as Abel Dominguez Salazar, was trapped inside the vehicle following the impact. Emergency responders worked tirelessly to extricate him from the wreckage, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
Another occupant in the Pontiac, a 58-year-old man, sustained multiple injuries in the crash and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine the exact sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
