A male resident from Lady Lake was apprehended on suspicion of driving under the influence after being intercepted on his way back from a fishing expedition.

Police Report

The Leesburg Police Department Communications Center was notified of a potential intoxicated driver, later recognized as 22-year-old Sixto Senta, in the vicinity of Main and South 14th Streets on Wednesday, June 19, as per an arrest report from the LPD. The vehicle proceeded southward on South 14th Street and entered a parking lot near the crossroads of South 14th and South Streets.

Arrest Details

An officer arrived in the area and spotted a white pickup truck exiting the parking lot. The vehicle commenced heading west on South Street at a considerable speed without active headlights or taillights. Consequently, the officer conducted a traffic stop near South Street and Florida Avenue, the report stated.

Field Sobriety Tests

The officer approached Serna and noticed watery glazed eyes and a potent alcoholic scent emanating from his breath during conversation. Serna was requested to exit the vehicle for field sobriety exercises. Although he consented to undertake the exercises, he refuted consuming alcohol, claiming he had just returned from a fishing trip, the report disclosed.

Due to numerous signs of impaired motor functions, such as stumbling and miscounting during the exercises, the officer deduced that Serna was under the influence. Consequently, he was apprehended on suspicion of DUI, restrained in handcuffs, and transferred to the LPD for an evidentiary breath test. Nevertheless, Serna declined to undergo the test on two occasions. He acknowledged his predicament during booking, the report outlined.

Legal Proceedings

Serna was officially charged with DUI and escorted to Lake County Jail. Subsequently, he was released after furnishing a $1,000 bond.
