The accused, identified as Shubham Dubey, reportedly deceived the young girl by promising marriage and then refusing to fulfill his commitment.
The survivor, who is a student of class 10, filed a complaint with Ratibad police on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of Shubham Dubey. According to the investigation officer SI Moolchand Meena, the girl met the accused in January this year through the popular social media platform, Instagram.
Shubham, a resident of Goragaon in Ratibad, manipulated the girl into a false sense of security under the guise of friendship. Their interactions escalated, and Shubham invited her to meet at a hotel in Ratibad in February, where he allegedly raped her. When the girl objected, Shubham assured her that he would marry her once she turned 18.
However, Shubham continued to exploit the girl, repeatedly raping her under the pretense of marriage. When the girl confronted him about their relationship and pressured him to fulfill his promise, Shubham started avoiding her and ultimately reneged on his commitment to marry her.
Feeling betrayed and cheated, the girl confided in her family members and took the courageous step of reporting the matter to the authorities. Ratibad police registered a case of rape under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, leading to Shubham Dubey’s arrest.
