In a recent development, a 51-year-old man from Guadalupe County has been apprehended and is currently in the Wilson County Jail in connection to a significant theft case that originated in Milam County.
The Milam County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement regarding the arrest of Shawn Sims on Tuesday. Sims is facing charges of Theft $150,000-300,000, classified as a second-degree felony, Theft $2,500-30,000, categorised as a state jail felony, and Tampering with a Government Record to Defraud of Harm, also a state jail felony.
The investigation into the case began on Friday, June 21, when the owner of a 2023 Supertrak reported the equipment as stolen to the Sheriff’s Office. The Supertrak, valued at $290,000, had been leased to Shawn Sims for property clearing work in Milam County.
During the course of their investigation, deputies discovered that Sims had contacted the equipment owner, claiming there was a leak that needed fixing. When the owner arrived at the location, they found the equipment missing and Sims alleging that it had been stolen.
Further investigations revealed that Sims had been seen transporting the stolen equipment to a storage facility in Seguin. Evidence recovered from the storage unit by the Seguin Police Department led to the Sheriff’s Office charging Sims with theft of the equipment.
Additionally, investigators found that Sims had been paid for work at the location in Milam County that had not been carried out, resulting in an additional theft charge. It was also discovered that Sims had presented a falsified government document with a tax identification number for a non-existent company in order to rent the equipment.
Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore expressed gratitude to the Seguin Police Department, the Seguin Fire Marshal, and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and collaboration in the investigation. Sims was ultimately located with the joint efforts of the Milam County Sheriff’s Office, Seguin PD, and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.
Following his arrest by Wilson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Sims was booked into the Wilson County Jail. It is noted that further charges may be brought against Sims across multiple jurisdictions as the investigation continues.
