Shinnville Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours as officers conducted an investigation into a fatal motorcycle accident.
MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A male resident of Statesville lost his life in a motorcycle collision in Mooresville on Wednesday night, as reported by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. on Shinnville Road near Weathers Creek Road in Iredell County.
According to officials, a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling north on Shinnville Road when the rider lost control. The motorcycle veered across the center line, went off the left side of the road, collided with multiple mailboxes, and overturned.
The motorcyclist, identified as 65-year-old Scott Alexander Turner, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Following the tragic incident, Shinnville Road was shut down in the area for around two hours to facilitate the on-site investigation.
A statement from highway patrol authorities indicated that excessive speed was likely the primary factor in the collision.
