HAYWARD – In a tragic incident that unfolded early Wednesday morning, one teenager lost his life while another sustained critical injuries in a shooting in Hayward, as confirmed by local authorities.
The distressing event took place shortly before 2 a.m. in the 24000 block of 2nd Street, located in close proximity to Hayward High School, according to a press release issued by the Hayward Police Department.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a 15-year-old boy from Rodeo who had succumbed to gunshot wounds. Despite their best efforts, the victim could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city’s fifth homicide of the year.
Meanwhile, around 2:15 a.m., law enforcement received information that a second victim of the shooting had been transported to a nearby hospital. The injured individual, a 13-year-old boy from Hayward, was reported to be in critical but stable condition.
As investigations into the incident continue, no arrests have been made thus far, leaving the community on edge and seeking answers.
