The incident took place on the morning of May 10, 2019, when the lifeless body of 54-year-old Ollie Richardson was discovered in a grassy area within the 400 block of Liberia Street. She had succumbed to five gunshot wounds.
Immediately after the tragic discovery, detectives from the Winston-Salem Police Department launched a thorough investigation. Eyewitnesses reported seeing Richardson in the company of the suspect, who was later identified as Quashawn Stover, on the evening preceding the murder. Stover confessed his involvement in the crime to several acquaintances, but when confronted by investigators, he denied any wrongdoing and provided an alibi that was subsequently disproven through forensic analysis.
In a separate incident on May 9, 2019, a shooting occurred at a residence located in the 800 block of West 12th Street in Winston-Salem. Following information from a confidential source, WSPD detectives linked Stover to the shooting, which was the result of a personal dispute between Stover and a friend of Richardson.
The motive behind Richardson’s tragic murder remains unclear to this day. Stover, facing the gravity of his actions, has been sentenced to a minimum of 15 years behind bars, with the possibility of serving up to 19 years in prison.
