Accident – Death – Obituary News :

MASHPEE, MA — The teenager who tragically lost his life in a serious single-car crash on Cape Cod early Tuesday morning has been identified as Nolan Robert Barr.

Barr, who was just 17 years old, was one of seven individuals in the car at the time of the devastating accident.

According to an online obituary, a visitation for Barr is scheduled to take place on Sunday from 12 to 3 p.m. at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, located at 74 Algonquin Ave in Mashpee. The funeral service will follow immediately after, commencing at 3 p.m.

An online fundraiser set up for the Barr family has amassed nearly $35,000 in donations as of Thursday morning, showcasing the outpouring of support from the community.

Barr was a student at Mashpee High School and was on track to graduate in the 2024-2025 academic year. He was actively involved in both the football and basketball teams at the school, where he was cherished by his peers.

The Mashpee Athletic Department organized a gathering for families affected by the crash on Tuesday, providing a space for support and collecting donations for those impacted by the tragedy.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. in the vicinity of Swain Circle on Carleton Drive, where authorities found a severely damaged Toyota Rav-4 that had collided with a tree.

Of the six passengers transported to local hospitals, two sustained injuries deemed to be life-threatening, as confirmed by Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline. Tragically, one 17-year-old passenger from Mashpee succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.

Mashpee Fire Chief John Phelan confirmed that there were seven individuals in the car at the time of the crash, with one miraculously escaping unharmed.

Carline disclosed that all the victims were aged between 15 and 17, hailing from Mashpee and Falmouth. Law enforcement officials are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, with initial findings suggesting the vehicle was travelling northbound.

It appears that the driver lost control while travelling north, veering off the road and colliding with the tree just south of Swain Circle.

Falmouth High School has announced that they will provide resources for students following the tragic incident, offering counselling sessions and support services to those in need.

“Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the car accident that occurred in Mashpee early Tuesday morning, involving seven teenagers. The Mashpee and Falmouth communities share a close bond,” said Falmouth Principal Alan Harris.

The family has requested that donations in memory of Barr be directed to I Got You, Inc. — The Ryan Hendricks Scholarship — at 121 South Sandwich Rd, Mashpee, MA, 02649. Contributions can also be made online via Venmo or by sending them to Laurentide at Mashpee Commons c/o Compassionate Caregivers Fund, located at 64 Great Neck Rd. South, Mashpee, MA, 02649.
