The Henderson Police Department has recently released body-worn footage of a tense barricade situation involving an armed suspect. The incident, described as an “open-air” barricade, took place last Thursday near the intersection of Sunset Road and Boulder Highway in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Officers were called to the scene at 9 a.m. on the 1800 block of Ward Drive, where they encountered 33-year-old Michael Fretheim. Fretheim was allegedly seen pointing a firearm at another individual who was visiting a nearby residence, leading to a standoff with law enforcement that lasted several hours.
After a brief altercation, Fretheim managed to flee the initial scene and was later located by officers near Margarita Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard. During the pursuit, Deputy Chief Boucher revealed that the suspect aimed his weapon at the officers, prompting them to open fire.
Fretheim was struck by a single round of gunfire and subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, he only sustained minor injuries, and no officers were harmed during the incident.
Charges Filed Against the Suspect
Following the altercation, Fretheim was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on several charges, including:
- Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon
- One count of resisting a police officer with a firearm
- One count of prohibited person possessing a firearm
- One count of obstruction/false Statement to a police officer
