An unfortunate incident has shocked the community of Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District of the Northern region, as an 18-year-old man reportedly took his own life while in police custody.
The young man, identified as Mbornlen Abass, also known as Agogo, was arrested by the authorities on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, following an accusation of theft by one Pinimkpel Nampar, who claimed that GH¢2,000 had been stolen from him.
Despite vehemently denying the allegations of theft, the 18-year-old found himself confined to a police cell overnight, where the tragic incident occurred.
Following the discovery of the lifeless body, it was promptly transported to the Bimbilla Hospital for preservation, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death commenced.
Regional and Divisional Police Commanders paid a visit to the scene on Wednesday, June 27, in an effort to gather more information and understand the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate outcome.
In a somber turn of events, the deceased, Mbornlen Abass, has since been laid to rest, leaving behind a community grappling with shock and sorrow over the loss of a young life.
