Olmsted County, Minn. (KTTC) – The investigation into the murder of Liara Tsai, 35, of Minneapolis, has taken a new turn with the revelation of evidence collected in newly unsealed search warrants.
Margot Lewis, a woman from North Liberty, Iowa, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in Hennepin County and interference with a body in Olmsted County in connection with Tsai’s death.
The tragic incident unfolded on the morning of Saturday, June 22, when Lewis crashed her vehicle into a bridge pillar on I-90 near Eyota. Good Samaritans who came to her aid discovered a deceased person wrapped in a tarp in the back seat of the car.
Through the car’s registration, the deceased person was identified as Tsai, leading investigators to Tsai’s Minneapolis residence where a “violent scene” was uncovered.
Search warrants obtained by KTTC outline the evidence collected by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) from the vehicle.
The BCA retrieved items such as a tarp, a blood-stained towel, a knife, a steering wheel, and swabs from door handles.
Meanwhile, OCSO seized a range of important personal documents belonging to Tsai, including a name change document, birth certificate, social security cards, and a passport. Additionally, a passport, airline ticket, and a diary belonging to Lewis were also collected.
Further evidence, such as nail clippings and hand swabs, were taken from Lewis as part of the investigation.
Lewis is set to appear in court in Olmsted County on July 5, with no court date scheduled yet in Hennepin County.
