Accident – Death – Obituary News : Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News)- An Iowa woman, identified as 32-year-old Margot Lewis, is now facing murder charges after being found with a body at a crash scene in Olmsted County. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office filed the charges against Lewis on Wednesday, following her arraignment on a charge of interfering with a dead body in Olmsted County Court.

Lewis was the driver of a car that crashed into the median at the Hwy. 42/I-90 interchange south of Eyota on the morning of June 22. An Olmsted County Sheriff’s Deputy who responded to the crash discovered the body of 35-year-old Liara Tsai in the back of the vehicle. The charges against Lewis indicate that Tsai had died as a result of multiple sharp-force injuries before the crash.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Tsai’s Minneapolis apartment and found evidence of a violent incident that had taken place at the residence. The murder charges filed in Hennepin County Court described a bloody scene at Tsai’s apartment, with her bed and bedding saturated with blood. A bloodied plastic and metal object was found in the bed, and a steak knife was missing from a knife set in the residence.

Security camera footage showed Tsai’s vehicle leaving the Minneapolis apartment complex around 4:30 am on the day of the crash. The driver’s outfit matched the clothing Lewis was seen wearing at the crash scene, and Tsai’s body was found wrapped up in the back of the vehicle.

Investigators learned that Lewis and Tsai were previously in a romantic relationship. A former spouse of Tsai described the relationship as vile and indicated that Lewis had flown to Minneapolis to visit Tsai on June 21.

Lewis has not provided a verbal statement to investigators and indicated a preference for communicating through sign language. Following the crash, Lewis was brought to the Olmsted County Law Enforcement Center, where she became combative when investigators attempted to take a sample of her fingernails.

The crash that led to the body discovery is still under investigation, with State Patrol Public Information Office Sgt. Troy Christianson stating that Lewis was driving at an estimated speed of 105 mph before colliding with the guardrail. Lewis was also traveling with Tsai’s dog at the time of the crash.

Lewis is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, and her first appearance in Hennepin County Court is pending. An Olmsted County Judge set Lewis’s bail at $1 million without conditions, and her next court appearance in the Rochester-area case is scheduled for July 5. Law enforcement has not yet located the missing knife, and the reason for Lewis traveling with Tsai’s body in Southeast Minnesota remains unclear..
