On Monday evening, around 6:45 p.m., Dayton police were called to the 4900 block of Genesee Avenue following reports of multiple people being shot.
According to a woman who called 911, “Somebody just drove past and shot up my neighbor’s house. The man next door is shot.”
Upon arrival, officers found an 11-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman with non-life-threatening injuries. Additionally, a 36-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man had also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Tragically, the suspect, later identified as Mapp, was pronounced dead at the hospital. It was revealed that he was married to one of the victims, indicating that the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation.
This incident was part of a series of shootings that occurred on Monday, resulting in numerous injuries and fatalities.
The first shooting took place in the early hours of the morning on Home Avenue, where one woman died and six others were wounded, including an 18-year-old man with life-threatening injuries.
The second shooting occurred later in the day on West Fifth Street, where a 46-year-old man attempted to steal a truck but was shot by the victim he tried to rob. The suspect, a felon with a parole warrant from Kentucky, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later apprehended.
These incidents highlight the ongoing issue of gun violence in Dayton and the need for increased measures to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
