Throughout the month of July, the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office will be working in collaboration with the Illinois State Police and other local law enforcement agencies to crack down on speeding and other dangerous driving behaviours.
Among the roads that will be closely monitored are Brighton Bunker Hill Road, Miles Station Road, Shipman Road (also known as “The Blacktop”), Staunton Bunker Hill Road, as well as sections of Illinois Routes 159, 4, 111, 138, and Old Route 66. This initiative is being funded by federal traffic safety funds that are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
Speeding has been identified as a major factor in many of the crashes that occur on these roads, leading to serious injuries and fatalities. By increasing police presence and enforcement on these high-risk roads, authorities hope to deter reckless driving behaviours and make the roads safer for all motorists.
