Police Appeal for Information in Suspicious Death Investigation in Granville

Authorities have released images in a plea for public assistance as they delve deeper into the suspicious death of a man in Granville earlier this year. The investigation is being carried out under Strike Force Loureiro.

On Sunday 17 March 2024, emergency services responded to a call regarding an altercation at a residence on Louis Street in Granville around 12:55 pm. Upon arrival, officers from Cumberland Police Area Command discovered a 36-year-old man with severe head injuries.

The victim, identified as Maciu Tale Tuitubou, a 36-year-old national from Fiji, was attended to by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being rushed to Westmead Hospital in critical condition. Tragically, he passed away in hospital on Monday 18 March 2024.

Following the incident, a crime scene was established, and investigations were launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and subsequent death of Maciu. A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Granville Police Station, although no charges have been pressed at this point.

Appeal for Information

Since March, detectives from Cumberland Police Area Command have been actively trying to piece together the events leading to Maciu’s untimely demise. Cumberland PAC Acting Commander, Acting Superintendent Darren Beeche, has urged the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation.

The police are particularly interested in speaking to witnesses, especially individuals who may have seen Maciu prior to the alleged assault. Additionally, they are keen to locate a woman who was spotted holding an open umbrella at the scene but departed before emergency services arrived.

Acting Superintendent Beeche emphasized the importance of community cooperation in uncovering the truth for Maciu’s grieving family. He stressed the necessity for the woman with the umbrella to come forward, as her insights could prove pivotal in advancing the investigation.
