A young man, identified as M Alagendran (21) from Kovilangulam village in Aruppukottai taluk of Virudhunagar district, was found brutally murdered near T Kallupatti in Madurai district. The incident, believed to be related to a love affair, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
The victim’s body was discovered near a kanmoi at Velambur, with his head severed from his body. Madurai SP BK Arvind, along with police personnel from V Chatrapatti station, made the gruesome discovery. The chopped head was found approximately 100m away from where the torso was located, indicating the brutal nature of the crime.
Love Affair Gone Wrong: Honour Killing Suspected
Preliminary investigations suggest that Alagendran was involved in a love affair with a minor girl, much to the disapproval of her relatives. The young couple belonged to different sub-castes, adding tension to their relationship. It is alleged that Porali, also known as Prabhakaran (27), was responsible for beheading the victim using a machete.
The victim’s grieving relatives staged a protest at the Madurai Collectorate, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident. Mariammal, the mother of the deceased, has claimed that her son’s murder was an honour killing, further intensifying the emotional turmoil surrounding the case. V Chatrapatti police have registered a case in response to the tragic event.
