FORT WAYNE, Ind. The protest comes in response to the recent fatal shooting of 22-year-old Linzell Parhm by FWPD Officer Mason Wills during a traffic stop on Saturday, June 22. This incident has sparked outrage and calls for transparency from the community.

Previous protests at the courthouse on Sunday and Monday demanded the release of police footage related to the shooting. In response, FWPD shared an edited version of the body camera footage on Tuesday, narrated by FWPD PIO Jeremy Webb.

According to Webb, Officer Wills encountered a gun in Parhm’s possession during the traffic stop and ordered him to keep his hands on the dashboard. When Parhm did not comply and continued to move his hands, Officer Wills called for backup and eventually fired two shots, fatally injuring Parhm.

The protesters at the courthouse are advocating for justice not only in Parhm’s case but also in the shooting death of 20-year-old DaChe’na Warren-Hill by FWPD Officer Guzman in late November. They stand in solidarity with all families who have lost loved ones in police-action shootings.

It took three months for FWPD to release the body camera footage related to Warren-Hill’s killing, after which the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office determined no criminal liability in the officer’s actions.

Officer Wills, the officer involved in Parhm’s shooting, has been placed on administrative leave as per FWPD policy. The incident is under investigation internally by FWPD and externally by the Indiana State Police, with the findings to be reviewed by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.

In response to the shooting, Parhm’s family has enlisted the support of national civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Indiana attorney Stephen Wagner to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
