Accident – Death – Obituary News : A man in Williamson County, Illinois is facing multiple drug charges after being pulled over with young children in his vehicle and deputies detecting the smell of marijuana. Kortrell D. Johnson, Jr. was arrested on charges that include possession of methamphetamine, controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia, as well as endangering the life or health of a child, improper lane usage, and failure to use a turn signal.
The incident occurred on June 20th at approximately 7:55 p.m. when deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle committing several traffic violations while travelling northbound on Route 148 in Herrin. Following the traffic stop, the driver, identified as Johnson, Jr., disclosed that he had three young children in the vehicle – aged 2, 3, and just 13 days old. Deputies immediately detected a strong odour of cannabis emanating from the vehicle.
Upon searching the vehicle, deputies discovered a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, a black bag containing five Alprazolam pills, and two hypodermic syringes that also tested positive for meth. Shockingly, the syringes were found wrapped in a diaper next to one of the children. Additionally, 15 unsealed bags labelled as “premium cannabis” were found on the rear floorboard of the vehicle.
Following the discovery, a report was filed with the Department of Children and Family Services, and the children were safely handed over to their mother. Johnson, Jr. was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Williamson County Jail.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with drug possession and the serious consequences that can arise when children are exposed to such illicit substances.
