A 29-year-old man has been charged in Thane, Maharashtra, for allegedly posting a private video of his former live-in partner on social media following their separation, according to a police official quoted by PTI. The suspect, identified as Kiran Bagrao, was reportedly in a live-in relationship with the victim, a 47-year-old woman, from August 2022 to January 2024 in Dombivli and Majiwada.
Bagrao, a resident of Shahapur in the district, was booked based on a complaint filed by the woman. The complainant stated that she had been in a live-in relationship with the accused and alleged that he had taken gold jewellery from her and recorded a video of her bathing. When she decided to end the relationship and asked for her jewellery back, he allegedly shared the video on social media. The woman further claimed that when she refused to meet him, Bagrao threatened her and made death threats, as per PTI.
The video was reportedly circulated on WhatsApp, the police official informed PTI. Bagrao has been charged under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, along with provisions of the IT Act, stated the official from Kapurbawdi police station in Wagle Estate division.
The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
