Accident – Death – Obituary News : The New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post is currently conducting a thorough investigation into a tragic single-vehicle accident that resulted in the loss of a young girl’s life on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place on Interstate 77 near milepost 88 in Franklin Township, Tuscarawas County. It involved a maroon 2007 Honda Civic that was travelling northbound on I-77 at approximately 5:47 p.m.
According to reports from authorities, the driver, identified as 38-year-old Josue De Leon Rivera from Dover, lost control of the vehicle. This caused the car to veer off the left side of the road, collide with the raised grass median, and ultimately overturn.
De Leon Rivera and two passengers sustained injuries as a result of the crash. He was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while a 7-year-old male passenger was also transported to the same hospital for minor injuries.
Unfortunately, a 4-year-old female passenger suffered severe injuries in the accident and was promptly taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. Tragically, she was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Various emergency response agencies, including the Strasburg Fire Department, Smith Ambulance, Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Bolivar Fire Department, and Greg’s Towing, were on the scene to provide assistance.
Authorities have indicated that alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the crash. However, the investigation into the incident is still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the tragic accident..
