North Las Vegas police have provided a comprehensive update on the tragic shooting spree that took place on Monday night, resulting in the death of five individuals and leaving a teenager critically injured.
Suspect identified and Motive Revealed
The authorities have identified the gunman responsible for the heinous act as 47-year-old Eric Adams. It was revealed that Adams was visiting his ex-girlfriend, aged 45, in a ground-floor apartment at Craig Ranch Villas when the incident occurred. An argument ensued between the two, leading Adams to produce a firearm and shoot two other women present in the apartment, identified as his ex’s 24-year-old daughter and the daughter’s 22-year-old girlfriend.
Neighbourly Intervention Turns Tragic
Following the altercation, a 20-year-old male neighbour from the upstairs apartment, who was acquainted with the women in the ground-floor unit, went downstairs to investigate after overhearing the commotion. Tragically, Adams shot the man once he entered the apartment, for reasons that remain unclear.
Multiple Victims in Upstairs Apartment
Inside the upstairs apartment, the man’s 59-year-old grandmother, 40-year-old mother, and 13-year-old sister were present. Adams proceeded to enter their residence and fatally shoot the three family members. Fortunately, two additional family members who were not visible during the incident escaped unharmed. These individuals, both in their late teens, were later identified by the police.
Hostage Situation and Escape
After the shooting rampage, Adams took his ex-girlfriend hostage and fled the scene. The ex-girlfriend managed to escape from Adams during the early hours of Tuesday and approached a Metro patrol officer who was conducting an unrelated traffic stop. She provided crucial information about the incident to the officer.
Police Investigation and Support for Victims
Upon arriving at the scene, NLVPD officers discovered the initial victims in the upstairs apartment around 10 p.m. on Monday night. Subsequently, an LVMPD officer relayed information from Adam’s ex-girlfriend to detectives, leading to the discovery of the additional victims in the ground-floor apartment. The North Las Vegas Police Department is providing support to the surviving victims and their families during this challenging time.
