LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A heart-wrenching tragedy struck the community of North Las Vegas as a series of shootings resulted in the death of five individuals and left a teenager injured. The incident, which unfolded on Monday night, involved a man identified as Eric Adams, 47, who took his ex-girlfriend hostage following the shootings, according to police reports released on Thursday.
The harrowing events took place at the Craig Ranch Villas, located near Craig Ranch Park and Commerce Street, shortly after 10 p.m. Eric Adams reportedly shot six people in two separate apartments within the complex before tragically ending his own life on Tuesday.
Initial investigations revealed that Adams, who was visiting his ex-girlfriend in a ground-floor apartment, engaged in a heated argument with her, leading to a violent altercation. During the confrontation, Adams retrieved a firearm and shot two other women present in the apartment, identified as the ex-girlfriend’s 24-year-old daughter and her 22-year-old friend.
Tragically, an upstairs neighbour, a 20-year-old man, overheard the commotion and attempted to intervene, only to become a victim of Adams’ senseless violence. Subsequently, Adams proceeded to the neighbour’s apartment, where he fatally shot the man’s 59-year-old grandmother and 40-year-old mother, and injured the man’s 13-year-old sister, who remains hospitalised.
Fortunately, two other teenagers in the upstairs apartment managed to evade Adams and escape unscathed. Adams then forcibly took his ex-girlfriend hostage and fled the scene. The ex-girlfriend, however, managed to escape unharmed in the early hours of Tuesday and sought assistance from a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer.
Upon responding to the apartment complex, law enforcement discovered the victims in the upstairs apartment, with further information from the ex-girlfriend leading to the discovery of additional victims in the ground-floor apartment. One of the victims has been identified as Kayla Harris, 24, whose cause of death was attributed to gunshot wounds.
Previous Incidents and Law Enforcement Response
Prior to this heinous act, Adams had completed domestic violence counselling earlier in the month and had a history of threatening violence towards women, as reported by the 8 News Now Investigators. Court records revealed past domestic violence convictions, including a case in 2023 that mandated Adams to attend classes, pay fines, and fulfil community service obligations.
Following the shootings, law enforcement issued a warning about Adams being armed and dangerous, urging the public not to approach him. Adams was eventually located at a business on Lake Mead Boulevard, where he was found armed with a firearm. Despite verbal commands to surrender, Adams tragically took his own life in a residential backyard.
