BRYAN / COLLEGE STATION, Texas (FOX 44) – A wanted individual has been taken into custody following a chase involving law enforcement officers from Bryan and College Station.
On Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:50 p.m., College Station Police received a report regarding a wanted man, identified as 37-year-old Ennis Jay Steels IV, a resident of Bryan. The sighting occurred as Steels was riding his bicycle along a sidewalk in the northern part of College Station. At the time of the incident, Steels was already wanted on seven warrants, including charges such as Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Resisting Arrest, Surety to Surrender, Evading Arrest, and three warrants related to Property Theft.
According to information provided by the College Station Police Department to FOX 44 News, officers spotted Steels at around 3:15 p.m. As soon as he saw law enforcement approaching, Steels immediately began to flee on his bicycle, leading to a pursuit along Texas Avenue in the vicinity of Bryan.
With the assistance of the Bryan Police Department, a perimeter was established in the area of Holick Drive and Dunn Street to contain Steels. Despite attempting to escape on foot after dismounting his bicycle in this location, Steels was unable to evade the authorities and was eventually apprehended. He was observed entering multiple residential backyards during his futile attempt to flee.
Following his arrest at approximately 3:30 p.m., Steels now faces additional charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest, in addition to the existing warrants against him. He is currently being held at the Brazos County Jail, with a bond set at $99,000.
