Accident – Death – Obituary News :

New Mexico State Police (NMSP) are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place involving the Otero County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. when an OCSO deputy was dispatched to conduct a welfare check on an individual walking on the median of US Highway 70 near mile marker 240. The individual was later identified as 17-year-old Elijah Hadley.

Unfolding of Events

As the deputy approached Hadley, the young man brandished what appeared to be a firearm at the deputy. In response, the deputy fired at least one round from his weapon, which tragically struck Hadley. It was later discovered by NMSP agents that the object Hadley presented was actually an airsoft gun. Despite this revelation, Hadley was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, the deputy involved in the incident did not sustain any injuries.
