Miamisburg man sentenced for shooting and robbery

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Dylan Judd, was tragically killed in Miamisburg on April 6, 2022.
Miamisburg police responded to a distress call from Judd’s girlfriend in the 1100 block of East Pearl Street. She reported that Judd had sustained a head injury and appeared to be unresponsive.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Judd had been shot and was lying in a pool of blood. Despite efforts to save him, Judd was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities from the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
Following an investigation, a suspect named Smith was identified through surveillance footage from nearby residences. He was apprehended the next day while police were searching for evidence in the area.
During the arrest, Smith was found in possession of a backpack containing items from Judd’s house, including an Xbox game system with a matching serial number to a past pawn receipt.
Further evidence, including suspected blood on the contents of the backpack, linked Smith to the crime scene.
Smith denied any involvement in Judd’s death but admitted to being inside the house for an hour before leaving through the back door.

Prosecutors have pushed for a severe sentence, citing Smith’s lack of remorse and the brutal nature of the crime. They argue for life imprisonment or a lengthy term for the deliberate act of shooting Judd.
In the moments after the shooting, Smith gathered Judd’s belongings, including drugs, cash, and personal items, before fleeing the scene.
He then made his way to downtown Dayton, where he disposed of evidence and acquired new clothing in an attempt to evade capture.
Authorities have described Smith as violent, manipulative, and calculated in his actions, emphasizing the premeditated nature of the crime.
Currently held in the Montgomery County Jail, Smith awaits trial and potential sentencing for his alleged involvement in Judd’s death.
