WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) — The heartbreaking incident of a two-year-old boy drowning in a pool in Wendell has left the community in shock. The young child, who has now been identified as the son of Wake County Deputy Jose Perez-Apodaca, tragically passed away on Tuesday after a drowning incident at a home on Gail Ridge Lane.

Upon receiving a distress call about the drowning, EMS and firefighters rushed to the scene to provide life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the child succumbed to his injuries.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office released a statement expressing their condolences and support for Deputy Jose Perez-Apodaca and his family during this devastating time. Sheriff Willie Rowe emphasized the importance of unity within the agency and extended appreciation for the community’s thoughts and prayers.
