Greensboro authorities have reported the arrest of two individuals in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old college student. The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Darian Valentine and 23-year-old Desean Hairston, were apprehended in Myrtle Beach approximately ten days ago. The incident, which took place on April 13th, claimed the life of Xiomara Moore, a student at NC State University. According to the police report, Valentine and Hairston allegedly ran a red light while driving a stolen Jeep on North Elm Street at Friendly Avenue, resulting in a collision that led to Moore’s untimely demise.

Both suspects are facing multiple charges, including felony hit-and-run. This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community and has left many in mourning over the loss of a promising young student. The Greensboro Police Department has been working diligently to bring justice to the victim and her family.

Details of the Arrest

Following intensive investigations and collaboration with law enforcement agencies in Myrtle Beach, Valentine and Hairston were taken into custody on June 17. Valentine, aged 22, has been charged with felony hit-and-run, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, careless and reckless driving, speeding, driving without a valid operator’s license, running a red light, using fictitious registration plates, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

On the other hand, Hairston, aged 23, faces charges of felony hit-and-run resulting in death as a passenger, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Both suspects are currently awaiting extradition back to Greensboro to face trial for their alleged involvement in the fatal hit-and-run incident.

Statement from North Carolina A&T University

Following the tragic loss of Xiomara Moore, North Carolina A&T University released a heartfelt statement expressing their condolences and sadness over the passing of the young student. Moore, who was a junior majoring in health science management in the Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences, was described as a valuable member of the university community.

The university’s statement read, “We regret to inform you that North Carolina A&T student Xiomara M. Moore, 21, from Gastonia, North Carolina, died today, April 13. Xiomara’s death is a great loss to the university community and to all who knew her. Our heartfelt prayers and condolences are with her family and friends. Information on services for Xiomara will be shared when it becomes available.”
